Frequently Asked Questions

Every package starts with a Zoom meeting, where we’ll discuss your project. But you can find answers here to most of the common questions we hear.

All of these!

We start with whatever information you already have – e.g., birthplaces, birthdates, wedding dates, etc – for your parents and grandparents. Then we start digging through these sources and many others: parish records, employment records, census data, passenger lists, and so on as we “wind back the clock” on your family history.

That very much depends on the detective work we can complete on the records described above.

Often names are changed, spelling is altered, or records aren’t entered completely. But so long as we can “maintain the thread” we can sometimes go back for centuries – although it gets harder and more time-consuming the further back we go.

We have different packages, priced to allow for the time and skill required to go back through the generations.

This is one of my biggest satisfactions! It’s not uncommon to find a branch of the family that was estranged, or migrated to a far-flung country, but over time relatives have moved around and may even be in the same city.

Many registries have an English language office to assist with genealogy research. We also have limited access to translation facilities.

Yes, for my course students I have an optional “Ancestry Searcher Community” for a small monthly subscription, with a FaceBook Group and a weekly video Q & A call.

Sharon and her team traced my family back to Bristol, England, in 1617. Just amazing!
